|Nitterhouse Masonry Products LLC was awarded top honors in the Commercial Concrete Pavers category of Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute’s Hardscape North America awards for the Boulevard Mall project in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
The project included a pedestrian boulevard and roof deck designed for an upscale lifestyle center located in a high profile mall. The paver installer faced several major challenges: 1) install 85,000 square feet of pavers, including 50,000 sq. ft. of complex argyle and checkerboard patterns, in a nine weeks timeframe; 2) perform the installation simultaneously with other trades on site; and 3) create a 13,000 sq. ft. completely flat, totally paved surface above an existing sloped roof.
Another unique aspect of the project was that it required the use of three different setting methods: sand-set pavers in the pedestrian walkway areas, mortar-set pavers for the roadways, and pedestal-set pavers for the rooftop dining area.
