William Clinton Presidential Center
Little Rock, AR
William Clinton’s presidential legacy can be seen within the walls of this AIA award winning project that also won Silver LEED certification. It is located on a 28-acre site on the Arkansas River. The site was selected as a catalyst to revitalize a rundown area and provide a new anchor for the eastward development of Little Rock. An important part of the complex is the creation of a new riverfront park, which links to the existing chain of parks along the river.
The main exhibition space building, known as the “Bridge Building” is elevated off the ground, allowing the new park to flow underneath. The connecting half-buried Archive Building hugs the ground in cladding of stone and concrete. Precast concrete panels, manufactured with Lehigh White Cement, and measuring 10 feet wide by 18 feet high, finish most of the lower two levels of the Archive Building. The concrete was mixed to match the color of the limestone, also used on the lower two floors.
